Eldritch Witness

If it wasn't already obvious for those of you who've been following me for awhile, I'm actually a pretty BIG fan of Lovecraft...not so much his stories as much as the concepts behind his stories. I love the themes of unimaginable places and creatures that are larger than life and far beyond the comprehension of any mortal man. The concept alone is as fascinating as it captivating...that having been said, it amazes me that while Lovecraft's name and work are so widely known few people truly understand his work or appreciate the enigmatic themes and intimate details.

Even though Cthulhu is perhaps Lovecraft's most well known and popular character I'd be willing to bet that more than half the people who've heard of him or seen him across various forms of media don't know the first thing about him. For example, did you know this guy's a priest? According to the Mythos, Cthulhu is the high priest to the Great Old Ones. Simply put, despite all the fame and hype that's given to this guy he's just a subordinate; a glorified lackey to creatures even more unspeakable than him...Just Try and Wrap Your Head Around That One!

Cthulhu, and HIS subordinate, Dagon, are only the first wave! They are the equivalent of missionary priests on a pilgrimage to spread the "good word" (and of course by "good word" I mean chaos, destruction, and madness), but they're just underlings...lackeys! Toadies! They are the front-men for horrors far more unspeakable than even they...which is actually pretty damn horrible when you think about it. After them are creatures FAR more powerful, sinister, and impossible to fathom; creatures such as Yog-Sothoth, Nyarlathotep, and Azathoth.

Really changes your perspective on this guy, doesn't it? Though I suspect not by much, 'cause he's still an OP unstoppable force of nightmares and insanity.
